The Mirror as an Act of Responsibility.
At the heart of the work lies the interaction between the subject and their reflected image. For Parchikov, the act of looking at oneself in the mirror—though seemingly neutral—is a declaration of belonging to the surrounding reality. Despite an individual’s desire to withdraw from current circumstances, the installation suggests that we are all inevitably participants in the present.
The philosophical undertone of the work echoes Karl Jaspers’ notion of metaphysical guilt, which emerges when human solidarity falters.
